Cyber Security Malaysia

cybersecurity 2015
cybersecurity 2015

An upcoming event in Malaysia. After 5 classes with Dr. Norzaidi, I became aware on how much information system and the technologies that come with it really plays important role in our everyday lives. I mean, just take a good look around us. We literally just cannot let a single day passes by without hooked-up to the internet.  Our everyday lives interdependent with information system and technologies surround it. Information at your fingertips…literally. Just put your hand inside a pocket and you’ll find your smartphone and you are ready to watch on what’s happening  around the whole world and nothing can stop you. p/s…you are literally using your fingertips when using your smartphone.

A few years back, an issue surrounded our fellow Malaysians about irresponsible or unethical use of the internet. Well, the whole world now is connected via internet. With little knowledge or know-how on the communication among internet users, computers’ capabilities, the internet traits itself and some programming languages, people are tempted to explore what they are capable of doing in the virtual world.

Over the past several years, experts and policy makers have expressed concern about protecting ICT systems from cyberattacks. BTW, cyberattack means deliberate attempts by unauthorized persons to access ICT systems, usually with the goal of theft, disruption, damage, or other unlawful actions. Many experts expect the number and severity of cyberattacks to increase over the next several years. And the act of protecting ICT systems and their contents has come to be known as cybersecurity.

From my point-of-view, cyberattacks is a big threat nowadays. Government must exert stern enforcement of law in combating illegal cyber activities. A few minutes ago, a message came into my WhatsApp and it says, “ada orang sebarkan video kapal MAS terhempas/berlanggar ke dlm laut. jangan buka. delete je terus sbb ada virus. terutamanya bagi yg pakai hp yg ada mobile banking. tolong sebarkan kepada orang lain. (dah masuk dalam berita)”. Sometimes I find it hard which to believe. Which one has the truthful information and which doesn’t.

We need to sit back and think of the consequences of irresponsible use of the internet. Like the message I received above, it is all about making money, or taking someone’s money…is means stealing. There are a few statistics on cyberattacks collected by Malaysian’s CyberSecurity. You can click here to find out more about our CyberSecurity. The statistic quite alarming…at least for me. Makes me wonder…aren’t these people got nothing better to do than sit in front of computers hours and hours everyday trying to figure out on how to launch an ‘attack’ to someone else’s property….i just can’t imagine how these people live their lives….pathetic i guess.

The event in September seems pretty interesting for me. I am not exactly into the industry per say, but it worth to know some development in cyberattacks and the cybersecurity, maybe some antivirus software or whatever. After all, we all users of modern information technologies…

The Evolution of Cellular Phones

I got this from this website http://www.webdesignerdepot.com/

Let’s throw back a few years back…well let’s take further back around 1980’s when I first saw a big giant phone comes in a suitcase. I think I was may be around 9-10 years old and at that tender age, I couldn’t care less of what technology was all about. All I know and what important to me at that time was Voltron, He Man and She Ra, the Ghostbusters…the least I can remember lol…

I would like share with u guys the revolutionize of cellular phone and use your own imagination on how it changed your lives…

Yes…I think it looks something like the one above. But I couldn’t find the image of the suitcase that comes together. Business people tends to carry one of those whenever they going outstation. Now, the bottom looks very familiar. The model was launched in 1996…I was a teenager at that time so I can pretty much remember that design. Due to it sleek design, light and small that u can put in your pocket, u can see this model used in many Hollywood movies like Enemy of the State, The Rock, Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer and their franchise….quite many thou. Usually Hollywood movies do not show any brand of any gadgets they used. It some sort of their regulations but people know what they see…good marketing strategy by Motorola

The three above were once famous NOKIA models in our local markets. The left side was famously known as the banana phone. It was bulky but the shape drew a lot of attentions to consumers especially to young adults who is always looking for something different. As I remember it, the middle model was the most expensive one in its line of luxuriousness. The right side was likeable because it was smaller and the antenna was short. Below I lined up Nokia cellular phones that were once had become favourite among Malaysians.

Warren Buffett is regard as an American business magnet, investor and a philanthropist (Wikipedia). Buffett is the chairman, CEO and largest shareholder of Berkshire Hathaway, and consistently ranked among the world’s wealthiest people.

“The basic ideas of investing are to look at stocks as business, use the market’s fluctuations to your advantage, and seek a margin of safety. That’s what Ben Graham taught us. A hundred years from now they will still be the cornerstones of investing.” – Warren Buffet

Al-Fariz Maju

Two days ago I went lepak at a mamak place at Kelana Jaya. Upon entering, I browsed for the best seat available and I settled. I had bought some pisang goreng earlier and I ordered my favourite afternoon drink, nescafe tarik. The waiter shouted to his colleague the drink I ordered then he placed a card on my table. The card looks like a ordinary card with the name of the place ‘Al-Fariz Maju’ printed on it. You can see the card below…

Eating my pisang goreng and waiting for my nescafe tarik. After a while nescafe tarik came and it smells good with foamy on top, just the way I like it. Then I realized that the waiters around were taking orders by poking their tabs…not sure what brand name of the tabs thou. And the waiters placing the same type of cards on the customers’ tables. Out of curiosity, I asked one of the waiters to show me the tab they are using…

In the picture above, the left hand side is the wireless card and on the right hand side is the tablet. If u can enlarge the view, the small colourful boxes represent f&b menus. The waiters just poke on the ordered items and everything is transferred to the cash register…..wireless. When it’s time to pay, the cashier just click one button on the cash register and the bill is generated. But I’m not sure what the cards are for….I’ll ask them in my next visit.

Shinkansen: Japan Proud Information System and Technology

Last night on TV3 aired Majalah 3 documentary and it was about the very famous bullet train and proud of Japan, the Shinkansen. I had the chance to board the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto when I visited Japan in February 2005. It was fast and a smooth ride and the train passed along the great Mount Fuji. Even from a distance, the mountain looks so huge with the pinnacle covered with white snow. I never knew that Shinkansen has been operating for 50 years now until I watched the documentary last night. The trains of Shinkansen have changed shapes over that period of time. The trains of Shinkansen connect to many cities across Japan and it is such an important mode of transportation for many Japanese as they commute everyday for work, school, travelling etc. What so great about the Shinkansen is that the train is never late to arrive at every destination on time and we hardly hear any complaints because of that and also, another thing about the Shinkansen worth pointing out is that we never hear any of the trains broken down in the middle of the track. To achieve all this, just imagine how the engineers, electricians, mechanics, IT personnel among others work on the design and create such a technology, information system and technology they are creating to ensure top notch quality service to their passengers. With the Japanese values and cultures, determinations, hard work and disciplines, nothing is impossible to achieve.

First day in MIS750 class

12 April 2015 was my first class in MIS750. Most entertaining class ever and Dr. Norzaidi (the lecturer) is so creative in his way teaching us. The girls just couldn’t stop laughing the entire class. So was I…hihihi (chuckles). A lot of us got a lot of marks courtesy of Dr. Norzaidi, particularly Zaharif for answering and asking questions. He got so much of bonus marks that I lost count. First he answered Subang correctly and got himself 200 marks and then another 10 and then 20 and 5 and so forth. As for me….numero UNO. That is ‘0’ or telur ayam folks hahahahaha….I got to actively participate in this class if I wanna get good marks (feeling motivated……hehehe). So next week folks, sit back and tuck yourself in because big daddy gonna rock the whole class…..Yeeehhhhhaaaaaa…!!!
